Detailed description of Paradise Pines Golf Course, CLOSED 2014

Paradise Pines Golf Course, is a Semi-Private, 9 hole golf course located in Magalia, California.

Designed by the father and son team of Bob E. and Robert L. Baldock, the Paradise Pines golf course opened in 1971.

The 9 hole course at the Paradise Pines Golf Course facility features 2,529 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 34.  Paradise Pines Golf Course is set among majestic pine trees. This course is cool in the summer and offers a refreshing variation from valley play. The course features tree lined fairways with homes dotting the boundaries.

Dogleg fairways on four holes keep play challenging and Hole #5 will keep you on your toes with a 189-yard, par 3 which plays uphill from tee to green. Paradise Pines features an additional set of tees that an be used when playing an eighteen hole round.

The course closed on 31 October 2014.

Being Local, I know the water company that owns the golf course has run it into the ground. (ironic ehh?). The course is for sale after years of abuse and a refusal by management to do the needed up keep has driven away the once busy course. When I first started playing this course It was a lush beautiful mountain course that was a pleasure to be at and great to play. Now the course is ruined. The last two years have left the fairways eroded and bare of any grass that you can hit from. If your perfect drive manages to stay on the fairway by not hitting a rock or dirt mound with a tuft of grass and bouncing in an odd direction, you really have to move it to a safe area to hit from about 80-90% of the time. I have been a member here for the last year. I have been playing this course over a decade. It is my understanding that it can be bought for $500,000. My uncle a former golf course developer and I discussed buying it and restoring it, but your water will come from the same company that ruined it and you may have no say in what they regulate your water use to. These volcanic ridges are notorious for being difficult to drill wells in and a large enough one for this course will cost as much as the course... (most are hundreds of feet through rock). So, the Groundskeepers are true Heros for managing to keep the greens still playable and mostly green, but the future of this course is in jeopardy....

Recent offer of a no fee, $46/month membership has me playing this course once or twice a week now. The fairways need some work in spots. The greens are still good and possibly the most challenging in the area. The course has very low traffic and is in a bit of an economic slump. Good walk in the hills with some nice wildlife; even with houses there are bears, and other animals including turkey. Nice experience and not terribly expensive.

Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

A bit high priced for a 9 hole course. Good fairways, some real challenging holes. Nice tall pines. Chances for glory on many holes.

To be fair, I belong to the Paradise Pines Men's Golf Club and rank the course as a constant user. To the visiting golfer it is a treat and a great challenge with it's narrow fairways and great greens. The first time I played it I was awed by the majesty of the tall trees. There is no water on the course and that's a plus.
